TO THE PRESS AND PUBLIC OPINION,
Efrîn, with the Kurdish majority of the population, was one of Syria’s most stable and secure regions. Efrîn has been a refuge for hundreds of thousands of refugees in the last five years with very little international help. Efrîn has taken so many Syrian refugees, such that the pre-war population of 400 thousand increased by several folds to one million. Efrîn, through the partnership of all ethnic and religious groups, had begun to lay the foundations of lasting peace, with a democratic self-governance.
In such a period, when we anticipate the war to be ending and negotiations for the future of Syria to be held, Turkish military and jihadist / Salafist armed groups which are commanded and supported by the Turkish military, have attacked this peaceful canton. Turkish states assault on Efrîn now poses a big threat to this stability created and the loss of the lives of many more civilians, many of whom are IDPs.
We know the Turkish state is has cynically labelled this assault “operation olive branch, which is the symbol of peace, but also symbol of Efrîn as the city of olives. We have seen that the Turkish forces have sent shipments of weapons in cranes under the name of humanitarian aid (as evidenced by journalist in Turkey who are sentenced to) and trained thousands of jihadists in the so-called refugee camps, and thus have aided the massacre of tens of thousands of civilians.
Turkish State by attacking people of Efrîn, a peaceful region administrated by a democratic governance system is committing a crime and the this is either condoned by other states, or they remain silent allowing Turkey to continue its attacks.
The peoples of Rojava (North Syria) lead by the Kurds lost thousands of lives to save the world from DAES terrorists and have created a system where all people of all ethnicities and religions can live together in harmony and peace, but this is the justice they get.
The Turkish military forces are not only killing civilians in this war but they ahve also targeted the ambulance of Heyva Sor charity, in which the wounded were present.
We condemn all these massacres and attacks of the Turkish State and the gangs it supports.
The international community now needs to stand behind the Kurdish people. International aid agencies should not only deal with the consequences of disasters, but also with those that cause them. We invite the international community and aid agencies raise their voice to prevent Turkish State’s attacks from causing more loss of innocent lives.
